After nearly 80 years in business, Louis Family Restaurant is preparing to close its doors. The team running the operations shared the news on social media, confirming the restaurant will serve its final customers later this month.
79-Year-Old Louis Family Restaurant Bids Farewell
A longtime favorite, especially among Brown University students, Louis Family Restaurant is closing. Customers love the breakfast spot for its casual atmosphere and warm dining experiences. It serves dishes like steak and eggs, ham-and-cheese omelets, and juicy cheeseburgers.
The restaurant team confirmed the closure news on social media platforms. The announcement said, “It’s time for us to embark on a new chapter. Our legacy began with two brothers and will forever be defined by two brothers.”
Founded 79 years ago by brothers Louis Gianfrancesco and Dominic, the restaurant used recipes they learned from an Army cookbook during World War II.
Talking about the spot’s history, the team added, “We’ve had an extraordinary journey from 1946 to 2025, and we’re grateful for the trust and loyalty you’ve shared with us over the years.”

Expressing gratitude, one of the fans wrote, “I will miss Louis so much! The tofu scramble during my junior and senior years was always the highlight of my week. I will always cherish seeing the beautiful art one last time and catching up with Ken, who I was so touched remembered me years later. Thank you for the wonderful memories, Louis.”
“Best wishes, John & Al, as you start a new phase in your lives. I am sad to see Louis close its doors,” said another customer.
Operated by generations of the Louis family, the restaurant held a special place in the community’s hearts.
