Daddy Jones, located on Medford Street in Somerville, has announced plans to close after serving the community for over 10 years. The restaurant’s last day of service will be on December 20. Until its closing day, the restaurant has planned events to celebrate the final chapter.
Daddy Jones To Close Soon
Daddy Jones, a longtime local favorite, is known for its authentic Greek dishes and old-school atmosphere. The restaurant offers a selection of classic cocktails and a diverse menu featuring dinner, brunch, and lunch options. Popular menu items include its Greek salad, meatballs, steak tips, and mixed grill.
The restaurant posted an announcement on Instagram and wrote, “After 13 unforgettable years in Somerville, it is time to share some bittersweet news. Daddy Jones will be closing on December 20.”
Dimitra Murphy, the owner of the restaurant, said in the post, “I have so many of my own memories of Daddy Jones, from painting the place with my mom and scrubbing the basement walls with my parents before opening to working the night before the birth of both of our children.”
She added that the restaurant has weathered many difficult periods, including the Covid-19 pandemic, and managed to survive.
The owner also expressed a great deal of appreciation for the team and the community.
“We couldn’t have done this without all the amazing team members we have had over the years. It is a relief that everyone one of them has opportunities elsewhere. We are walking away grateful for every person who pulled up a chair, worked a shift, poured a drink, shared a meal, or simply cheered us on,” she added.
The restaurant has not provided any official reason for its closure.
Throwback Nights and Special Events Planned for Final Week

For its final days, the restaurant has planned a special send-off with throwback nights. The restaurant owner shared, “Some excitement for our last few days will include some throwback nights with old staff. Plan on joining us Thurs., Dec. 11-Sun., Dec. 14 and the following week, Wed., Dec. 17-Sat., Dec. 20.”
Murphy added, “Thank you for showing up for us through every season. Thank you for the date nights that turned into engagement parties and then first birthdays. Thank you for the ‘just one drink’ nights, the gyro cravings, the holiday parties, and all the moments in between. You filled this place with life.”
Daddy Jones will serve its final meal on December 20.
