A popular Japanese restaurant in Cambridge is stepping into a new era.
Boston Restaurant Talk reports that Café Sushi, the longstanding sushi spot at 1105 Massachusetts Ave between Harvard and Central Squares, is reopening its dining room this fall and rebranding as Café Sushi Nisei in the process.
Run by chef brothers Kenshi and Seizi Imura, the restaurant has operated exclusively for takeout and delivery since the pandemic began. Known for its artful sushi with inventive touches like truffle oil and cherry blossom, along with a thoughtfully curated sake selection, Café Sushi has long struck a balance between tradition and experimentation.
“As we reopen our dining room, Café Sushi Nisei marks a new chapter,” the brothers shared in a BostonChefs.com job listing. “It’s our way of honoring where we come from, while continuing to evolve — bridging Japan and Cambridge, past and present, heritage and creativity.”
Originally opened in 1984 by the brothers’ parents, Saburo and Jitsue Imura, Café Sushi has earned numerous accolades over the decades, including several “Best of Boston” awards from Boston Magazine. When the dining room closed in 2020, the business rebranded as Café Sushi Shoten.
What Now Boston has reached out to the Imura brothers for more details on the reopening and will provide updates as they become available.
