Late last year, What Now Boston shared that a local Haitian-American chef was plotting an expansion. Since then, her plans have taken an exciting turn.
Nathalie LeCorps, who first made waves with her popular Gourmet Kreyol food truck, launched the first brick-and-mortar location of the brand in Mattapan this past May. Now, she’s unveiled a few details about her next venture.
Originally expected to be a second Gourmet Kreyol, LeCorps has decided to switch things up. Her new concept, Doune & Pepe, will open at 657 Washington St in Dorchester‘s Codman Square. The restaurant is taking over the former home of Next Step Soul Food Café and is aiming for a fall 2025 debut, according to the Dorchester Reporter.
While the full menu has not yet been released, LeCorps plans to dish up a playful fusion of Haitian, Dominican, and Cuban tapas, paired with refreshing Caribbean cocktails. The cozy spot will seat up to 49 guests, boast a full-liquor license, and stay open until midnight.
Doune & Pepe builds on a rich family legacy. Gourmet Kreyol was founded by LeCorps’ parents in Miami before she brought the brand north to Boston. The eatery serves Haitian-American comfort dishes, such as soup joumou and pork with plantain.
“So much has happened since we last spoke,” LeCorps told What Now Boston. Her team plans to share more details about the new restaurant soon, so keep an eye out for updates.
