Boston’s South End is about to get a lot sweeter.

A chocolate shop in Newton Heights is getting ready to expand with a second location. As reported by Universal HubCacao will soon debut at 570 Columbus Ave, following the recent approval of their food-serving license by the Boston Licensing Board.

Cacao will offer a diverse selection of chocolate delights, including bonbons, truffles, chocolate-covered nuts, and a rich hot chocolate topped with whipped cream, cinnamon, and fresh dark chocolate flakes. Various chocolate, nut, and seed offerings are also available on the shop’s site.

After immigrating from the Dominican Republic to the United States, co-owners and fiancés Leo Baez and Perla Rosario founded Cacao with the mission to share their cherished childhood memories. Leo fondly recalls stopping for snacks among the groves of cashew trees lining his walk home from school, a memory that inspires many Cacao creations today.

A self-taught chocolatier, Perla honed her craft by spending time at her family’s cacao farm in the Dominican Republic. It was there that she discovered the exquisite pairing of chocolate and nuts, a combination she continues to expertly craft at Cacao.

Although the duo previously operated another Cacao location on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain, they closed that site in 2022. The upcoming Columbus Ave location will operate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., offering both indoor and outdoor seating.

Stay tuned for the official grand opening date as this exciting expansion continues to unfold.
