Clover Food Lab is closing one of its eleven locations, but the company plans to open a new outpost elsewhere in the city.
According to a Universal Hub report, the eatery at 27 School St in Boston’s Downtown Crossing is officially shutting its doors today—on Thursday, May 22, 2025—after nine years in business. A representative for the chain confirmed both the closure and plans for a new location with What Now Boston, though specific details about the upcoming site remain under wraps for now.
“I wanted you to be the first to know – we have decided to close CloverDTX this year in favor of opening a new, exciting Clover location nearby,” wrote Clover CEO Julia Wrin Piper in an email to customers announcing the news. “Official announcement coming soon!”
All Downtown Crossing team members have been offered positions at other Clover locations, including the Federal St site, which is just an eight-minute walk from the closing eatery.
“I want to say a big THANK YOU for eating with Clover over the past 9 years!” added Wrin Piper. “When you eat with us, you are supporting New England farmers who use sustainable growing practices, and proving that a truly local food system is possible.”
Founded in 2008 as a food truck by MIT alum and environmentalist Ayr Muir, Clover has grown into a local fast-casual staple known for its vegetarian and vegan fare—think sandwiches, sides, soups, bowls, and coffee—as well as a daily home delivery mealbox service and catering. After emerging from bankruptcy last year, the company unveiled ambitious plans to open 47 new outlets over five years.
Stay tuned for updates—details about the new location will be shared over the summer.
