A Texas-style barbecue joint in Wilmington is gearing up for a major upgrade.
Erica and Sean Marchant, owners of Code 1 BBQ at 211 Main St, recently announced plans to relocate to a larger nearby space. Erica told What Now Boston that they’re setting up shop at 228 Main St, just a short stroll from the current location.
Founded in 2021 as a catering service, Code 1 BBQ is a veteran-owned, women-run, and family-operated small business. Known for its Texas-style barbecue, house-made sauces, and scratch-made sides, the eatery has quickly become a community staple.
At the new restaurant, diners can look forward to an expanded menu featuring house-cut fries, fried chicken wings, Southern fried chicken and waffles, and burgers. An extra smoker will boost cooking capacity to keep up with growing demand.
Code 1 will also offer a brand-new dessert lineup, with options ranging from diner-style pies and banana pudding to Texas sheet cake, cookies, and brownies. “We’re going to kind of have a cool little barbecue bakery,” said Erica.
Additionally, guests can look forward to extended hours and a fun event space dubbed “The Barn,” designed to accommodate 40–60 people for special occasions such as baby showers, small weddings, birthday parties, retirement celebrations, team luncheons, art classes, or speaking engagements.
The Marchants are in the process of redesigning the new restaurant, which boasts an impressive eightfold increase in seating capacity. While the current space only has twelve chairs, the upcoming eatery will hold 90-120 patrons.
Though they may have to shut down for a couple of weeks during the transition, Erica said they plan to launch the new Code 1 on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. “We decided not to make it April 1st because it’s April Fool’s Day,” she quipped.
