A Jamaica Plain eatery is being revamped.

PikaloX, the fast-casual offshoot of the popular Pikalo empanada chain, is getting a name and menu makeover at 3160 Washington St. The Egleston Square eatery will soon relaunch as PikaPollo, a brand-new concept centered on Dominican fried chicken.

The update was shared by Egleston Square Main Street on Facebook. “We’re thrilled to announce that PikaPollo will be launching soon, taking the place of PikaloX!” reads the post. “Get ready for a fresh new experience—same spirit, bold new flavor. PikaPollo brings a vibrant twist with even more delicious offerings and an energy you won’t want to miss.”

Founded by Jose and Elsa Pimentel, Pikalo first opened in Hyde Square in 2015, building a following with its classic beef-and-cheese empanadas, as well as more adventurous options like seafood fiesta.

Today, the brand operates five restaurants in East Boston, Lowell, Lawrence, and Jamaica Plain, according to its website. PicaloX broadened the original menu to include wings, yaroa, sandwiches, and tropical juices.

Although a full menu and exact opening date haven’t been announced, Instagram teasers hint that PikaPollo is testing new recipes and gearing up for a grand reopening soon.
