Downtown Boston may soon get a new jazz club and restaurant.
Ravinder and Jeetendra Shahani are hoping to open a two-story music venue and restaurant in the former Good Life space at 28 Kingston St, reports Universal Hub. Good Life closed its doors in 2022 after 17 years in business, and the space has been vacant ever since.
If the Boston Licensing Board signs off, the new venue would host “jazz and other performances” on one floor. The other floor would focus on dining, though it’s unclear what type of food would be offered.
Attorney Dennis Quilt explained that the space would actually operate as two distinct venues: LuXXor and the Bloom Room. The Shahanis plan to purchase a liquor license from D’s Keys, a dueling-piano bar that recently closed in South Boston.
Quilt says the proposed project would breathe new life into this corner of downtown, filling a gap left by Good Life’s departure.
The Shananis held a meeting with local abutters and the Downtown Boston Alliance, though they have yet to meet with the Downtown Boston Neighborhood Association, which could complicate approvals.
However, Quilt noted that at least four emails requesting a meeting went unanswered until recently, when the association expressed concerns over the venue potentially staying open until 2 a.m. on weeknights.
The Shahanis did not immediately respond to What Now Boston‘s requests for comment. Keep an eye out for updates as LuXXor and the Bloom Room move through the licensing process.
