A new drive-thru Taco Bell restaurant may soon be coming to North Quincy.

Norwell-based D.E. Foods has proposed construction of a one-story, 2,120-square-foot eatery with seating for 20 guests in the western corner of the Stop & Shop parking lot at 65 Newport Ave, reports The Patriot Ledger.

Plans submitted to the city outline a 21,540-square-foot development that would include 19 parking spaces for employees and customers. If approved, construction is expected to begin in April and wrap up by August 2026. The total project is estimated to cost $2.2 million, with roughly $900,000 allocated specifically for construction.

The proposal calls for several site improvements. The development would increase the total number of parking spaces at the Stop & Shop property from 393 to 412 while also introducing updated landscaping, new utility connections, and upgrades to the site’s stormwater management system designed to capture and treat runoff.

Since the Stop & Shop was originally built under a Planned Unit Development approved by the city council in 1994, the Taco Bell proposal requires an amendment to that original approval. The project will also require a special permit from the zoning board because the property falls within a floodplain overlay district.

Quincy is currently home to one combined Taco Bell and KFC location in Wollaston Center. If the new restaurant is approved, the standalone Taco Bell would employ about 25 workers, with roughly seven employees on a typical shift. Planned hours of operation would run from 10 a.m. until 2 a.m.

According to the company’s Facebook page, D.E. Foods has operated as a family-run KFC franchise for over 30 years and now manages more than 50 KFC and KFC/Taco Bell locations across the Northeast. Husband-and-wife owners Dave and Mary Ann Evans could not be reached for comment.
