Framingham Baking Company, which has served customers in MetroWest for over 100 years, will permanently shut down. The family-owned bakery, which specializes in fresh bread, pastries, and its famous trays of pizza, confirmed that its last day of business will be next month.

Framingham Baking Co. Prepares to Close After 109 Years

Framingham Baking Company, established in 1917, is a 109-year-old company. Over the decades, it became one of the oldest bakeries in the area to have operated continuously. Currently, there are three bakery locations.

The bakery is particularly known for making fresh, crusty loaves and rolls. The bakery also offered pastries, cookies, and seasonal treats for holidays and local events. One of its most familiar products is tray-style pizza slices. Thick and square cut with a signature sauce on top, these slices became a defining product of the business.

In a recent social media announcement, the company announced its permanent closure. The era of the bakery will end on March 29, 2026. Owners Joan, Ernie, and Kathy thanked customers and employees for their support over the bakery’s long history.

The reason behind the closure has not been disclosed. Rumors about a closure have circulated since last year, though the bakery reassured customers on social media in October 2025 that it was not closing at that time. The bakery confirmed on social media that it will close permanently on March 29, 2026.

Hearing of the shutdown, people have been posting responses on social media. Patrons shared memories of cookies, holiday bread, and after-school pizza stops. Numerous people remember the bakery as a defining part of their childhood in Framingham.

The members of the community are eager to keep their famous recipes in some form. Many were thankful to the owners and the staff who had been keeping the business since time immemorial.

One user wrote, “Nooooooo!!!!! This is the saddest thing I have ever read. Whenever my family comes to visit me, they always bring a sheet of pizza for me. I’m so sorry you are closing.”

Another one mentioned, “Definitely need that recipe. That was the best pizza we’ve ever had.”

The reaction indicates how the bakery is entrenched within the MetroWest community and the attachment many customers developed over the years.

The Framingham Baking Company closure is not just the closing of a storefront. It indicates how the century-old businesses can gradually fade in the region. When it closes in March, Framingham will lose not just a bakery, but a cherished piece of its culinary history.
