The Maitland family, founders of Maitland Mountain Farm, a thriving two-and-a-half-acre urban farm on the North Shore, is embarking on an exciting new venture: the opening of Maitland Farm, Kitchen, and Spirits at 84 Derby St in Salem. What began as a father-daughter project, blending Peter Maitland’s agricultural expertise and tractor skills with Holly Maitland’s keen eye for flower tending and arranging, evolved into a success story showcased at the Salem Farmers’ Market.

In the early stages, Holly connected with her now-husband Andy Varela, a skilled and ambitious cook with a growing business acumen. Together, they combined their efforts, catapulting the farm to its current success, known for its bountiful produce, homemade habanero pickles, marinated mushrooms, firecracker carrots, and plethoras of plants.

While specific details about the restaurant are scarce, a recent Facebook announcement revealed that Maitland Farm, Kitchen, and Spirits will fulfill the couple’s long-held dream of owning a restaurant, featuring locally grown food from their farm as well as other New England farms. With construction in full swing, both locals and visitors alike can eagerly anticipate a culinary adventure that not only celebrates homegrown dreams but also showcases the bountiful tapestry of the region’s rich agricultural offerings.
