After 37 years in operation, O’Connor’s Restaurant & Bar in Worcester has closed its doors. The restaurant shared the news of its permanent closure on social media just days before St. Patrick’s Day. The restaurant initially announced a temporary closure on March 8 after a burst pipe. On March 12, the restaurant said the damage, along with rising operating costs, forced it to close permanently.

O’Connor’s Restaurant Closes Permanently

O’Connor’s Restaurant & Bar, a longtime favorite and iconic Irish pub located at 1160 W Boylston St., shared the news of its closure through social media.

For nearly four decades, the Irish pub was a staple in the Worcester community. O’Connor’s was known for its lively atmosphere and Irish memorabilia. It served classic comfort dishes such as Irish Potato Pizza, French onion soup, and chicken pot pie.

The closure announcement came just days before St. Patrick’s Day, a holiday that had long been a major celebration at the iconic pub. Over the years, many guests gathered at O’Connor’s to mark the occasion with food, drinks, and community traditions.

The team behind the restaurant shared a temporary shutdown notice on March 8 because of a burst pipe. On March 12, the restaurant confirmed it would close permanently, citing repair costs and rising expenses.

“It is with great regret that we must share that after our recent pipe burst and with rising business costs, O’Connor’s will not be reopening its doors,” the team behind the pub shared.

The O’Connor’s team said the business had faced several challenges in recent years but remained committed to keeping the restaurant open. However, the burst pipe added more financial strain and made the establishment’s operations difficult.

They shared, “We shared so many wonderful memories together, and we are truly thankful for every visit, every meal, and every moment. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. We are saddened that it has come to this, but we wish you all the very best as we say farewell.”

After the news was shared, many loyal customers expressed their sadness on social media. One patron wrote, “Grateful for the experience. I have so many wonderful memories there. My friends would always take me there for my birthday.”

O’Connor’s closure leaves a lasting mark on the Worcester community. With St. Patrick’s Day approaching, the celebrations will not feel the same without the iconic Irish pub.
