Earlier this year, What Now Boston reported that local scoop shop Third Time Ice Cream would be opening its first brick-and-mortar location in East Somerville. While those plans have since melted away, the specialty shop has reemerged with a new name and a new address.

Third Time Ice Cream is taking over the former Super Bien space at 525 Western Ave in Brighton‘s Charles River Speedway marketplace, reports Boston Restaurant Talk. A recent social media post from the team confirms this news and introduces the shop’s new name: Third Time Together.

“With an expanded menu of food and ice cream, we’re growing into a new name—Third Time Together—and a new home at @charlesriverspeedway,” the post reads. “Same vibe. Same people. Now in a space rooted in community and chance encounters, and more ways to share something good.”

Founded by Nick Ladin-Sienne, Third Time originally launched as a temporary stall in Somerville’s Bow Market in the fall of 2024. Since then, the scoopery has made regular appearances across the city, including pop-ups at Tilde and Deep Cuts.

Ladin-Sienne told What Now Boston that the East Somerville location fell through due to lease complications, but he’s grateful for how things have unfolded. “This will be our first brick-and-mortar where we are not inside of anyone else’s space and we’re very excited about it!” he wrote in an email.

The name “Third Time Ice Cream” is a translation of the Hebrew phrase pa’am shlishit glida, a whimsical take on serendipity: “If the universe keeps putting someone in your path, the next move should be intentional (and involve a treat),” the Third Time team explains.

The shop is known for its creative, boundary-pushing flavors. Hits include On a Date—a vegan coconut and jasmine rice ice cream swirled with date, tamarind, and blueberry-coriander ribbons—and Secret Password, a decadent chocolate ice cream with roasted sesame seeds.

While the final menu has not yet been released, Ladin-Sienne said that Third Time Together will feature both food and ice cream under one roof, along with “fun non-alcoholic drinks.” The shop will stick to its existing model, where all flavors shift monthly based on whatever local and seasonal ingredients are available.

“For instance, in winter we only had storage vegetables and did a golden beet and Buddha’s hand citron gelato,” Ladin-Sienne noted. “But now with the bounty of summer we have had cantaloupe and pandan ice cream, rhubarb gelato with strawberry jam, and others.”

Construction is currently underway, and Third Time Together is tenatively set to open in mid-August 2025. For the latest scoop, follow the shop on Instagram and Facebook.
