A longstanding Chinese restaurant in Peabody will soon reopen under new ownership and a new name.

In late March 2025, Jade’s Restaurant announced it would be closing its 4 Bourbon St doors after more than 30 years in business. But just weeks later, the restaurant posted an update stating that it was only temporarily closed for renovations and would reopen soon.

“Sorry for the late notice!” wrote the team. “We are currently closed due to renovations! We will reopen in a few weeks! We are very excited to serve you with our new additions!!”

According to city permits, a new ownership group purchased the building in late 2024 and plans to reopen it as Mio Restaurant & Bar. While many details remain under wraps for now, the filings reveal that the group is adding a sushi bar and updating plumbing fixtures as part of the renovations.

Jade’s was beloved for its classic Chinese dishes, including chow mein, Sichuan tofu, and crispy beef. It’s not yet clear whether any of these staples will appear on the new Mio menu, though an April update from Jade’s mentions that it will continue to serve family recipes.

In a brief conversation with What Now Boston, one of the new owners shared that renovations are taking longer than anticipated. Still, the group is hoping to open Mio Restaurant & Bar in mid-July 2025. “We will continue to keep you updated if it ends up being closer or longer,” she added.
