The longtime owner of a kitchen supply warehouse in Jamaica Plain has some exciting plans in the works.
Bob Harrington, who runs BMS Paper & Market at 3390 Washington St, has received the go-ahead to expand the operation with 82 apartments, a restaurant, and a bakery, according to Universal Hub. The Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved the plans earlier this week.
Harrington briefly confirmed the news with What Now Boston, promising to share more details in the coming weeks. In the meantime, public filings reveal plans for a two-part buildout: a five-story extension behind the current two-story BMS building and a separate six-story building further back, all spanning roughly two acres.
The restaurant and bakery would occupy the new addition in the rear, with a covered walkway connecting them to Washington St, though details about those concepts are still under wraps.
The plans also include 87 parking spaces and room for 139 bicycles—available to customers and residents alike. Notably, 23% of the residential units would be designated as affordable housing, exceeding the original 13% requirement from when the project was first proposed.
BMS currently operates as a discount kitchen outlet supplying party goods and restaurant essentials. Harrington first floated redevelopment plans nearly five years ago, including a potential rooftop deck above the restaurant, but it’s unclear if that feature is still on the table.
What Now Boston will be keeping tabs as the project unfolds, so watch out for updates.
