Last year, What Now Boston reported that a new Mediterranean concept called Marbella Kitchen & Bar would take over the former site of The Plate at 10 Bassett St at The Milton Marketplace. Those plans have since shifted.
According to The Patriot Ledger, the new concept will be called Julianne’s Kitchen & Bar and will still be run by Milton Marketplace and Fruit Center Marketplace owners Michael and Mark Mignosa, along with restaurateur Vance Welch of Novara and Abby Park.
The new name honors the late Julianne M. Foley, a longtime Fruit Center Marketplace employee who spent 40 years with the company and developed lifelong bonds with the Mignosa family and staff.
The Plate closed in May 2024, and bringing a new restaurant to the space has not been without its challenges. Strong neighborhood concerns over noise, odors, late hours, and the shift from family-friendly dining to a bar-like atmosphere led to multiple application withdrawals and lengthy approval processes, including tweaks to the original Marbella plan.
Since then, the team has redesigned the space with a smaller, more central bar and plans to install an additional AirMaid system to further reduce kitchen odors.
Julianne’s Kitchen & Bar will occupy the second floor of The Milton Marketplace, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. While a full menu has yet to be released, the owners promise “elevated comfort classics made with locally sourced ingredients.”
Slated to open in early 2026, the restaurant will seat 99 guests and operate daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
