Last year, What Now Boston reported that Pokye Casserly, owner of Union Square‘s longtime Reliable Market, was planning to open K-Bok, a Korean fried chicken spot in Somerville. Now, that concept has grown into something much bigger.

Beyond offering crispy chicken, K-Bok will function as a lively community hub, starting each day as a cozy café with coffee and pastries before shifting into a full bar and entertainment venue by night.

“Our family has operated Reliable Market in Union Square for nearly 15 years,” Casserly told What Now Boston. “Over the years, we’ve done our best to integrate ourselves into the fabric of the neighborhood by working with Union Square Main Streets, the City of Somerville Arts Council, and other community partners that make this area so unique.”

K-Bok’s menu will focus on bold Korean flavors, featuring dishes such as double-fried chicken tossed in signature sauces like soy garlic and sweet and spicy gochujang, along with plenty of other tempting options.

In the evenings, the venue will come to life as K-Bok Noir, showcasing live music from local DJs and bands, plus craft cocktails, local beer on draft, and a curated sake program complete with tasting flights.

K-Bok is aiming for a late summer 2025 opening at 249 Washington St, not far from Reliable Market.

“Our dining room will be open to anyone looking for a welcoming third space,” said Casserly. “We’re really excited to bring K-Bok Korean Fried Chicken to Union Square.”
