A family-owned Salvadoran restaurant has closed one of its Framingham locations while preparing to open a larger eatery in Ashland.
At the end of October, La Pupusa Loca Grill closed its longtime 144 Waverly St location in Framingham, though its 795 Concord St restaurant remains open. “After seven years at our Waverly St location, we’ve decided it’s time to close,” the team shared in a Facebook post. “We appreciate all the support and love we’ve received at that location over the years.”
However, the restaurant is gearing up to open a brand-new outpost at 33 Pond St in Ashland’s Market Basket plaza. Karla Martinez, the daughter of owner Maria Cortez, told What Now Boston that the upcoming location—which is expected to debut in the coming weeks—will be significantly larger, allowing the team to serve more guests and take advantage of abundant plaza parking.
La Pupusa Loca is known for its traditional Salvadoran and Mexican comfort dishes, from pupusas and tacos to loaded quesadillas and hearty breakfast plates. Fan favorites include the Carne Asada Tacos, Camarones al Ajillo, Huevos Rancheros, Birria Ramen, and Frijol con Queso Pupusas.
For the family, the Ashland expansion feels like a homecoming, as the business first launched in 2015, just up the street inside the Exxcel gas station. “Now we’re back in Ashland 10 years later!” Martinez said. “We are so excited to be back and are grateful for how welcoming the town has been! We look forward to opening up and seeing familiar faces as well as new ones!”
