A local Mexican restaurant is expanding to the western suburbs of Boston.
According to a social media update from the business, Lalo’s Mexican Kitchen & Bar is planning to open its third location in the former Hola Restaurant & Tequila Bar space at 154 Turnpike Rd in Southborough. The eatery will be located within The Crossings at White’s Corner retail center.
“The rumors are true! Our hearts are full
” the team wrote on Facebook. “With so much gratitude, we’re happy to announce that Lalo’s Mexican Restaurant will be opening a new location in Southborough. This journey has been built on family, hard work, and the incredible support of our community. Thank you for trusting us, supporting us, and allowing us to grow!”
Husband-and-wife duo Gerardo Guzman and Vanessa Ceja launched the original Lalo’s in Marlborough in November 2018, serving a variety of Mexican staples like tacos, fajitas, birria, and burritos in a casual space with a bar. Their second location opened in Hudson in August 2021.
The couple appeared before the Southborough Select Board on Jan. 6 seeking a Common Victualer’s license, which was unanimously approved. “I’m glad you’re doing this,” Select Board member Kathryn Cook said. “This town needs more restaurants, so we are fully supportive of what you’re trying to do.”
The new Southborough location will span roughly 1,495 square feet, featuring a dining area, kitchen, and bar. While the building’s physical structure will remain the same, the owners are planning some interior upgrades to give the space a distinctly Lalo’s feel.
Although Ceja confirmed the expansion with What Now Boston, additional details about the menu and design have not yet been shared. According to a report from the Community Advocate, the restaurant is slated to open in April 2026.
“We can’t wait to welcome Southborough into the Lalo’s family,” the team wrote. “Stay tuned for what’s next! “
