A new branch of a popular Jewish bakery will soon open in Newton Centre. Bakey Babka signage was recently spotted at 749 Beacon St, in the former site of Galit’s Treats Café & Bakery. Additionally, the All Over Newton Facebook page mentions that a construction crew was working inside just yesterday.

Founded in 2021 by Uri Scheft and Or Ohana, Bakey Babka brings together the expertise of two Jewish bakers who also co-own a bakery in Israel. The forthcoming Bakey will be the duo’s third location, with thriving outlets already in Boston and Brookline.

At the existing Bakey locations, customers can enjoy a diverse range of “ridiculously fresh” pastries. This includes an assortment of babkas, broissants (a cross between a croissant and brioche), cookies, brownies, and cakes.

In addition to these sweet treats, the bakeries offer freshly baked savory items, breads, sandwiches, salads, and bowls, as well as coffee, tea, and grab-and-go options.

Ohana told What Now Boston that he hopes to welcome guests to the Newton Centre Bakey Babka next month, in May 2024.
