A local trio of ice cream shops is expanding to Boston’s northwest suburbs.

New City Microcreamery will open its fourth location in the former Abbott’s Frozen Custard space at 311 Broadway in Arlington Center, according to a press release. The shop already serves fans from its Hudson, Sudbury, and Cambridge outposts.

Co-founders Jason Kleinerman, Karim El-Gamal, and Michael Kasseris launched the original New City in Hudson in 2015, complementing their existing restaurant, The Rail Trail Flatbread Company. Since then, the creamery has built a devoted following with its inventive flavors and high-tech ice cream-making method.

“Jason and I grew up in a neighborhood not far from Arlington Center (Belmont), and we frequented this beautiful downtown for dining and shopping,” Kasseris said in a statement. “So it feels like we are coming full circle, now being able to offer our ice cream where we once enjoyed a scoop and a stroll as kids. We can’t wait to share our passion with the community—from our Baklava ice cream to our Best of Boston–winning Dubai Chocolate.”

At New City, each batch starts with a scratch-made ice cream base that’s steeped in flavor for 24 hours. Then, liquid nitrogen—colder than negative 300 degrees—is poured into the mixer, instantly freezing the cream while creating ultra-fine crystals for a silky-smooth texture. A final burst of aeration gives the ice cream its signature airy profile.

The menu features a rotating selection of more than 30 small-batch flavors, including Chocolate, Cake Batter, Baklava, Sweet Corn Vanilla Blackberry, Vegan Peanut Butter Oreo, and Mango Sorbet, along with coffee, tea, soda, and lemonade.

While the Arlington location was originally expected to open before the end of August 2025, that timeline has shifted. A company representative told What Now Boston that they hope to announce an official opening date soon. For the latest scoop, follow @newcitymicrocreamery on social media.
