A new Japanese restaurant is preparing to open in Arlington this fall.

Sumen is set to take over the former Rangla Punjab space at 444 Massachusetts Ave in Arlington Center, reports Boston Restaurant Talk. The address has hosted a long list of eateries over the years, including Singh Saab, Punjabi Tadka, Midami, Kayuga, and Asiana Grille.

Owner Purichaya Tawinno told What Now Boston that Sumen will specialize in ramen, donburi, and sushi. The ramen will be crafted using traditional Japanese recipes, with most seasonings and ingredients imported directly from Japan. This commitment to quality and authenticity, Tawinno says, will set the restaurant apart.

“Every flavor of ramen and every broth is crafted in-house, simmered for over 10 hours with the finest ingredients to achieve a rich, delicious taste that meets our standards,” Tawinno explained. “Our donburi and sushi are prepared with fresh, quality meats and seafood.”

Sumen will host a soft opening in mid-October 2025, with a grand opening to follow later in the month. Once doors officially open, guests can expect dine-in, takeout, and delivery options.
