An Italian favorite is making a comeback on the North Shore.

Michael Giannasca and his wife, Maryanne Cox, are reopening the former Michael G’s in Chelsea as Michael G’s Bar & Bistro.

While the original restaurant was located on Revere Beach Pkwy, the new bistro will occupy the current site of Tambo 22—which is scheduled to close on Dec. 20—at 22 Adams St, reports Boston Restaurant Talk.

“Hi, I’m a little premature but just so excited to announce that Maryanne and I are re-opening The New Michael G’s Bar and Bistro,” Giannasca announced in a Nov. 10 Facebook post. Though details are still emerging, the bistro is set to bring back much of the original restaurant’s familiar and comforting fare.

The new eatery will serve a “small lunch menu” featuring fresh salads, artisan sandwiches, homemade soups, pastas, and Michael G’s beloved barbecue. According to a Facebook post from North Shore Eats, pizza won’t be on the menu due to size limitations, but catering will be available, and the new restaurant will honor existing gift cards.

Afternoon diners can expect full waitress service alongside imported wines, craft beers, and a specialty cocktail lineup.

The original Michael G’s closed over the summer after about five years in business, though Giannasca and Cox always hinted at a return. While an exact date hasn’t been set, fans can expect the reborn eatery to open its doors in mid to late January 2026.
