A popular superfruit bowl franchise is heading to Westborough.
Playa Bowls is preparing to open at 290 Turnpike Rd (Route 9), Unit 165 in the RK Speedway Plaza shopping center, according to a recent media update from RK Centers.
“We are thrilled to welcome @playabowls to RK Speedway Plaza on RT 9 in Westborough, MA! 👏👏 ” the team shared on Instagram. “Playa Bowls is your slice of summer, anytime!”
The new shop comes from franchisee Troy van Belle, who told What Now Boston that the Westborough location will offer the brand’s signature lineup of açaí bowls, smoothies, juices, and seasonal specials, including the Frosted Hazelnut Smoothie, Peppermint Pick Me Up Cold Brew, and North Pole Açaí Bowl.
Van Belle operates under his Dark Horse Franchising group, which began franchising Playa Bowls about a year ago. His team now owns all Playa Bowls locations in Western Massachusetts, with five stores open and around 20 more currently in development across New England, Albany, and Tampa.
“We love the brand, love the health direction of the food,” van Belle said. “They’re the largest açaí brand in the United States. Once we opened our first few [stores] and liked how operationally minimalistic it was and how strong the customer following was, we latched onto it.”
