Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is gearing up for a major Greater Boston takeover.
The multinational fried chicken chain plans to open a new outpost at 1024B Commonwealth Ave in Brookline, right on the Boston line near Boston University. The space previously housed a Mission Cannabis Dispensary location, reports Boston Restaurant Talk.
Franchisee Rahman Hashimi told What Now Boston that the Brookline location is just the beginning; he recently inked a 15-unit deal to grow Popeyes’ footprint across the region over the next five years.
Founded in New Orleans in 1972, Popeyes now boasts more than 3,000 locations worldwide. The chain’s menu centers on spicy Louisiana-style fried chicken—sandwiches, wings, and tenders—along with other Southern-inspired dishes like red beans and rice and Cajun fries.
Hashimi knows the brand well, having previously operated 15 Popeyes restaurants in Connecticut, along with several in New York. His new Brookline location will span about 1,800 square feet, with seating for 12 diners and a “more digital focus,” including three ordering kiosks tailored to the busy BU crowd.
The Brookline Popeyes is still in the permitting stage, but construction is expected to begin soon. If all goes according to plan, hungry students and locals will be digging into crispy chicken by the end of 2025.
