Situated at 264 E Berkeley St in Boston, Baleia, an enticing Portuguese-inspired restaurant, is steadily taking shape. Under the skillful guidance of parent company Coda Restaurant Group, this culinary destination is currently undergoing construction with owner James Cochener fervently eyeing an early 2024 opening, despite an initial 2023 projection. Ted Hawkins, Cochener’s business partner, serves as the Director of Operations for the group, ensuring a seamless and successful launch.

Coda Restaurant Group is known for the successes of SRV and The Salty Pig in Boston, as well as Gufo in Cambridge. Baleia, meaning “whale” in Portuguese, promises to be another standout in the group’s trio of sister establishments. While little is known about the restaurant, patrons can eagerly anticipate a delightful array of “Portuguese-inspired, Boston-made” dishes, as revealed on the restaurant’s website.

Stay tuned for a flavorful journey that promises to transport diners straight to the heart of Portugal. In the meantime, mark your calendars for the anticipated early 2024 opening and prepare your taste buds for an unforgettable experience at Baleia.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article incorrectly listed Michael Moxley as a co-owner of Coda Restaurant Group.
