A couple of years after opening inside downtown Reading’s historic Post Office Building, Post 1917 is expanding next door.
The upscale steakhouse, which debuted in May 2024 at 136 Haven Street, is set to expand into the adjacent space at 144 Haven Street, reports the Daily Times Chronicle. The move will significantly increase the restaurant’s footprint and capacity for private events and high-demand holidays.
Chef-owner Jason Carron told What Now Boston that the expansion will introduce two new rooms designed with flexibility in mind. One will serve as a boardroom-style space accommodating 25 to 30 guests, centered around a long communal table and complete with a built-in shelving unit and mounted television for presentations and media needs—ideal for corporate dinners, client meetings, and networking events.
The second will be a larger multi-use event room capable of hosting surprise parties, local sports team banquets, school functions, bridal and baby showers, and intimate weddings. The restaurant also plans to utilize the space for overflow dining during major holidays, easing capacity constraints during peak celebrations.
“We are coming through the wall so the two rooms are joined via a hallway,” Carron explained, noting that the seamless connection will allow guests to move between spaces while keeping private functions distinct from the main dining room.
Since its debut, Post 1917 has built a reputation for elevated steakhouse fare. The menu features classic cuts such as filet mignon, ribeye, and long-bone tomahawk steaks, alongside indulgent starters like wagyu dumplings and lamb lollipops. The lineup also includes soups, salads, and seafood-forward entrées.
The Reading expansion marks the latest step in the restaurant’s steady growth across Greater Boston. A second Post 1917 location opened last year in Lexington at 27 Waltham Street, and another is in development in Somerville at 16-20 Medford Street, slated to debut this summer.
