A popular Quincy cafe is undergoing a significant transformation. Located at 17 Chestnut St, Cafe Gelato, known for its espresso and gelato, is transitioning from a fast-casual coffee spot to a sit-down eatery and cocktail bar. This rebranding will see the cafe reemerge as Sapori Cucina & Bar, as reported by Boston Restaurant Talk.

Although owner Giancarlo Baldini did not immediately respond to What Now Boston’s request for comment, the newly rebranded establishment already has an active website and Instagram presence. Based on its social media posts, Sapori—which translates to “taste” or “flavor” in Italian—plans to offer a range of refreshing cocktails and Italian-inspired comfort dishes.

Recent updates on Reddit indicate that the space has just undergone a “massive remodel,” and while some commenters express disappointment over potentially losing Cafe Gelato’s signature espresso and gelato, many are excited about the new direction.

It’s unclear whether Cafe Gelato will continue operating until Sapori officially opens or if it will close temporarily while Baldini prepares for the rebranding.

Conflicting information on Sapori’s Instagram page suggests an opening date sometime between April and May 2024. Keep an eye out for more information as this development unfolds.
