A new family-owned restaurant specializing in South Asian fare is on its way to Wellesley.

Rani Mahal is moving into 27 Grove St, taking over the longtime home of Amarin of Thailand, which is in the process of relocating after over 35 years in that space.

Owner Ram Dhital told What Now Boston that Rani Mahal will spotlight North Indian and Nepali cuisine, as well as some Indo-Chinese dishes. The expansive menu spans soups, curries, noodles, and fried rice, plus plenty of vegan and vegetarian options.

Standout offerings include coconut soup, gobi manchurian, chicken tikka masala, goat curry, lamb chow mein, and tofu saag. For dessert, diners can indulge in sweet treats like kheer (gluten-free rice pudding), carrot cake, and pistachio ice cream.

“Nestled in the heart of the community, our restaurant is inspired by the royal kitchens of South Asia, serving authentic dishes crafted with traditional spices and fresh ingredients,” reads Rani Mahal’s website. “Whether you’re here for a cozy family dinner or a special celebration, our warm ambiance and exceptional service promise a dining experience fit for royalty.”

Dhital and his family are no strangers to the local dining scene. They also run Himalayan Bistro in West Roxbury, House of Tandoor in Newton’s Piccadilly Square, and Momo Masala in Jamaica Plain, all of which focus on Indian and Nepali cuisine.

Rani Mahal is slated to open in two to three months, said Dhital. For the latest grand opening updates, be sure to follow the restaurant on Facebook.
