A Maine-born brewery chain is charting new territory just northwest of Boston.

Sea Dog Brewing Company is setting sail for Lowell, where it plans to open its ninth location inside the former El Jefe Taco Bar space at 203 Cabot St, confirmed owner Fred Forsley. The company currently operates eight brewpubs across Maine, New Hampshire, and Florida.

While Forsley promised to share more details soon, a recent job listing seeking a general manager reveals that the Lowell location will undergo a full renovation, featuring indoor and outdoor seating for more than 300 guests, plus dedicated event spaces.

“Sea Dog Brewing Company is excited to announce the opening of our newest location in the heart of Lowell’s thriving education, sports, business, and residential community,” the listing reads. “We are a family-owned, award-winning independent craft brewer originating in Maine with over thirty years of brewing and brewpub experience…”

Founded in Camden in 1993, Sea Dog has long been known for its laid-back atmosphere, English-style ales, and a hearty menu of comfort classics, from chowders and sandwiches to tacos, burgers, and more.

Jill Moses, who owns several restaurants in Maine, will operate the upcoming Lowell location. An opening date has not yet been announced, so stay tuned for updates as Sea Dog Brewing Company prepares to bring its coastal charm to the Mill City.
