A Hong Kong-style street food eatery is expanding to Malden.

New York-based Sing Choi Kee is opening its first Massachusetts location in the former site of More Than Coffee at 7 Pleasant St, according to city documents. The chain currently operates one restaurant in Flushing and has another on the way to West Nyack.

Founded in November 2023, Sing Choi Kee’s menu blends tradition and whimsy, featuring Hong Kong café staples like dim sum, char siu, and omurice, alongside comfort dishes such as slippery egg over rice, beef pasta, and Hong Kong-style French toast.

The eatery is also known for its bubble tea selection and ‘Little Bear‘ teas and lattes, topped with bear-shaped ice cubes that have quickly become a social media favorite.

“Following the influences of post-World War II British culture on Hong Kong, locals adopted the delightful combination of tea with milk and the enjoyment of delectable cakes,” reads the restaurant’s Google Business page. “This cultural shift gave birth to the Cha Chaan Tengs, offering quick and affordable dishes catering to the community’s new tastes. At Sing Choi Kee, we take pride in advancing this rich legacy.”

City filings indicate that the space has recently been renovated, and franchisee Alvin Qu told What Now Boston that Sing Choi Kee is tenatively slated to open in about one month, pending final inspections. Follow the eatery on Instagram @sck_boston for the latest updates.
