After nearly a decade in business, Somerville‘s Southern Kin Cookhouse has closed its doors, but the popular eatery isn’t gone for good.

Part of Boston Nightlife Ventures (BNV), the Southern restaurant served its final plate at 500 Assembly Row on July 27, 2025. In a heartfelt farewell, the team reflected on “ten incredible years of triumphs, trials, and resilience—surging through COVID and navigating the turbulent economy,” and thanked their loyal staff and community.

With their lease now up, the group is ready to “embark on a new adventure in a new neighborhood.” While the address and reopening timeline remain under wraps for now, Southern Kin’s Instagram bio teases that the new restaurant is “coming soon,” and BNV told What Now Boston that specifics are forthcoming.

BNV also operates South End speakeasy Wink & Nod, celebrated for its swanky ambiance and a chef roster that changes every six months. The group launched Southern Kin Cookhouse in June 2016, with Chef Bill Brodsky dishing up a menu of Lowcountry- and Southern-inspired staples like farmhouse biscuits, chicken n’ waffles, gumbo, country fried steak, and mashed potatoes.

What Now Boston will share more details on Southern Kin Cookhouse’s relocation as they become available, so keep an eye out for updates.
