South Boston‘s longtime sports bar staple, Stats Bar & Grille, is getting a major makeover.
Brothers and real estate developers Andrew and Jim Statires recently secured approval from the Boston Planning & Development Agency for a $4.5 million redevelopment of their property at 75-77 Dorchester St, reports Only in Boston.
Plans include replacing the existing one-story bar and adjacent two-family dwelling with a five-story mixed-use building. The project will feature 15 residential units above—including three income-restricted homes—eight off-site parking spots, and 3,500 square feet of ground-floor restaurant space, with the original bar slated to return in the new structure.
In addition to new restaurant employment opportunities, the redevelopment is expected to create approximately 21 construction jobs, according to BLDUP.
Since opening in 2010, Stats has become a go-to Southie hangout, serving eclectic pub grub, cold beer, and cocktails alongside wall-to-wall sports coverage. Earlier this year, the Statires expanded their footprint with a food stall inside Boston’s Hub Hall.
It’s not yet clear whether Stats Bar & Grille will close during construction or when the redevelopment will be finished, but the brothers plan to begin work later this year after the city’s review process is complete.
