One of Stoked Pizza Co.‘s three locations has closed indefinitely following a fire.
On May 12, 2025, founders Scott Riebling and Toirm Miller announced that, due to a small lithium battery fire, their pizzeria located at 1611 Massachusetts Ave in Cambridge would be shuttered until further notice. “We are working diligently to assess the situation and make necessary repairs,” they wrote in a statement.
Just a week later, on May 19, the duo shared another update: what they initially believed would be a quick fix has turned into a lengthier ordeal. The restaurant’s soundproofing ceiling soaked up smoke like a sponge and now needs replacing—but since the material is custom-ordered, repairs are delayed.
“Thank you so much for your patience and continued support,” wrote the team. “We can’t wait to get the oven up and running to welcome you back as soon as possible!”
The Cambridge location, which launched in 2021, is the second of three Stoked Pizza outposts. The company got its start as a food truck in 2014 before launching the first brick-and-mortar shop in Brookline in 2016. Their most recent restaurant opened in Cohasset in January 2025.
The small chain is known for its expertly crafted wood-fired hybrid pies that blend the best of Neapolitan and New York/New Haven styles. The Stoked dough yields a crust that’s soft and airy on the inside with a sturdy, charred exterior.
A representative for Stoked Pizza Co. told What Now Boston that the team plans to reinstall the ceiling at the end of the first week of June, but an exact reopening date has not yet been determined. Be sure to follow the pizzeria on Instagram @stokedpizza for the latest updates.
