A longstanding Lowell confectionery is set to debut a new downtown shop.
Renowned for its small-batch candy and treats, Sweet Lydia’s is expanding its offerings with a range of European-inspired baked goods under a new brick-and-mortar name: Pizzelle Bakery.
Owner Shannon Arenburg, who took over Sweet Lydia’s from founder Lydia Blanchard in 2018, is excited to partner with another local, woman-owned business, Roots & Spoon.
At Pizzelle, patrons will find a delightful blend of products from Sweet Lydia’s, Roots & Spoon, and Pizzelle itself all in one charming location. Expect to enjoy Roots & Spoon’s handcrafted jams, jellies, and relishes, alongside Sweet Lydia’s signature candy bars, caramels, s’mores, marshmallows, hot chocolate, and toffee.
The bakery’s menu will feature a variety of European-style breakfast pastries, tarts, breads, pies, cakes, and, of course, pizzelle (Italian waffle cookies). Pizzelle will also offer classes, tastings, and seminars led by Arenburg and her partner, Laura Imhoff (Roots & Spoon).
Arenburg has been diligently restoring and renovating the 125-year-old building at 201 Market St for nearly three years. Although she’s not quite ready to announce an exact opening date, she plans to welcome guests to Pizzelle Bakery this fall.
