A small chain of polished casual dining restaurants and bars is expanding to the South Shore.

Tavern in the Square is opening a new location in the former TGI Friday’s space at 60 Forbes Rd in Braintree, reports Boston Restaurant Talk. A representative for Broadway Hospitality Group (BHG)—the chain’s parent company—confirmed this news with What Now Boston.

“Tavern in the Square is proud to expand to the South Shore and looks forward to serving and engaging with the Braintree community,” she said.

Celebrated for its handcrafted cocktails and scratch-made American cuisine, Tavern in the Square offers a diverse menu featuring burgers, bowls, sandwiches, pizzas, pasta dishes, and more.

The new location will feature an expansive dining and bar space, plus a spacious covered patio—”perfect for gatherings, game days, and enjoying seasonal menus indoors and outdoors.”

In addition to Tavern in the Square, BHG is behind a number of local drinking and dining spots including The Playwright in South Boston, The Mercantile in Worcester, and The Derby in Salem.

Construction is currently underway, and Tavern in the Square Braintree is on track to open in early summer or late fall 2025. Once it debuts, the new eatery will join 17 existing locations scattered throughout New England.
