Detroit Pizza Co will soon open in the Oak Square area of Brighton at 600 A Washington St, confirmed by the owner Anastasios Anastasiadis.
“We will be aiming to open our doors in August,” Anastasios told What Now Boston, “We will be providing authentic Detroit-style pizza and freshly breaded chicken wings and chicken tenders as the main portion of our menu. We will also have some salads and fries, too.”
For those that are unfamiliar with Detroit-style pizza, what sets Detroit-styled pizza apart from its counterparts is its distinct characteristics. Unlike traditional round pizzas, the Detroit style is known for its deep, rectangular shape, providing ample space for generous toppings and a thicker crust. The dough, which is often enriched with a blend of flours, is allowed to rise slowly, resulting in an airy yet chewy texture that complements the other elements.
One of those specific defining features is the cheese. Rather than layering the cheese on top of the toppings, it is spread all the way to the edges of the pan, forming a crispy cheese crust that caramelizes as it bakes. This gives the pizza a golden-brown edge that also adds both texture and flavor.
