A new dining and drinking destination is headed for downtown Boston.

So Lim Ting and his wife Yingqi Su are planning to open Tiki Cove in the former Loyal Nine space at 17 Union Street, reports Boston Restaurant Talk. Before Loyal Nine, the Union Street space was home to several popular bars and restaurants, including Sons of Boston, The Tap Trailhouse, and The Tap.

Under their Ting Management Group, the couple operates several Boston-area restaurants, including Nan Xiang Express in Chinatown, Friendship BBQ in Allston, JiangNan in downtown Boston, and the recently opened Novo Lantern in the city’s South End.

While Ting confirmed the project with What Now Boston, he noted that it’s still in the early stages of development and declined to share additional details at this time.

However, licensing filings mention that the 2,418-square-foot U-shaped space would feature a 19-seat bar and a seasonal outdoor patio, open April through October. Proposed hours would extend until 2 a.m., with the patio closing at 10 p.m.

An official menu has not yet been released, but given Ting Management’s other ventures—which focus on Chinese cuisine—and the venue’s tropical-inspired “Tiki” name, diners might anticipate a playful fusion of Chinese flavors along with island-themed cocktails or décor.

Ting says additional details will be shared as the project progresses, so stay tuned for updates as Tiki Cove prepares to make its mark in downtown Boston.
