Bedford’s Virsa De Punjab Indian restaurant is expanding to downtown Wellesley.
According to The Swellesley Report, the Punjabi eatery will open its second location at 99 Central St in Wellesley Square, taking over the former La Toscana’s space. Known for its classic Italian fare, La Toscana’s closed its doors earlier this year.
Founded in 2016 by best friends Kishan Singh Bola and Baljit “Bally” Singh, Virsa De Punjab has built a loyal following in Bedford with its authentic dishes inspired by the flavors of the duo’s native Punjab, India.
On the restaurant’s website, the friends share that it has long been their dream to “bring the flavors and delicacies from their family kitchen” to Massachusetts. They believe that “each dish is a celebration of rich culture and heritage of the sub-continent.”
The menu features favorites like tandoori chicken, malai kofta (deep-fried dumplings in a creamy tomato sauce), goat biryani, and garlic naan.
Guests will also find refreshing drinks like mango and strawberry lassi (yogurt-based smoothies), and traditional Indian desserts such as kheer (cardamom rice pudding) and kulfi (a dense, creamy ice cream).
Kishan confirmed the upcoming Wellesley expansion with What Now Boston, noting that the new restaurant is still a few months from opening. While he declined to share additional details for now, he promised to reach back out with updates.
