After years of anticipation, Xi’an Famous Foods—a celebrated New York chain known for its fiery hand-ripped noodles and Shaanxi street eats—has finally made its way to Boston.
The family-run brand quietly launched its first local outpost as a ghost kitchen in Roxbury at the end of June 2025, marking its first foray outside of New York and Virginia. But CEO Jason Wang told What Now Boston that this is only the beginning.
A full-service Xi’an Famous Foods is already under construction at 255 Washington St in Downtown Crossing, slated to open toward the end of the year if all goes smoothly. Wang teased that even more Boston-area locations are also in the works, though he’s keeping details under wraps for now.
“I’d rather not speak to those just yet,” he noted in an email, adding that he hopes to plant roots in neighborhoods where the food is “easily accessible to people of all demographics!”
Founded in 2005 and named for Xi’an—the family’s hometown—Xi’an Famous Foods began as a humble basement stall in Queens. It’s since blossomed into a mini Shaanxi empire, dishing out a wide range of hand-ripped noodles, dumplings, spicy salads, and more across its 18 locations.
Stay tuned for updates as Xi’an Famous Foods continues its expansion across Greater Boston. In the meantime, hungry patrons can get a taste by ordering online for easy delivery or pickup in the Roxbury ghost kitchen at 94 Shirley St.
