The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department undertakes routine inspections across food establishments in Charleston to ensure its health parameters are followed. In one such stringent test performed on April 25, a popular sandwich eatery demonstrated unsatisfactory results.
Food inspectors have scheduled a reinspection for the Charleston-based fast food spot in May.

This Charleston-based fast food place is a go-to place for the city’s sandwich lovers. It serves both hot and cold sandwich dishes to guests, along with a kids’ menu. Highlights include club sub, 6 roast beef and provolone, kids turkey and cheese, and sweet tea.
Jersey Mike’s Subs could not show its compliance with food safety regulations at the Charleston outlet. In an inspection conducted by the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department, the sandwich eatery demonstrated multiple violations.
Food inspectors highlighted a lack of supervision by Jersey Mike’s Subs’ PIC. Their report highlighted that the PIC should have taken action for only one valid food handler’s card at the food facility. Inspectors added that at least one ServeSafe manager should have had the KCHD Managers Card.
After this, expired water filters were found at the Charleston-based food facility. So, the food inspectors asked the representatives at Jersey Mike’s Subs to schedule the inspection and service of water treatment devices.
Follow-up Scheduled for Jersey Mike’s Subs
The inspection report then shed light on improper food storage measures at the Charleston food establishment. Food items were not kept at a required 6 inches above the floor.
Based on the nature of violations found at Jersey Mike’s Subs, food inspectors will return with a reinspection on May 9. The officials of the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department have asked the staff at the sandwich place to take corrective actions by then.
