Amelie’s French Bakery is planning a new spot, only smaller. It will unveil Amelie’s L’Express at 1511 Central Ave. in Plaza Midwood, according to a recently filed permit. The space was formerly home to Nova’s Bakery.
The new Amelie’s will be the sixth in Charlotte, joining Uptown, Rock Hill, Park Road Shopping Center, NoDa and Carmel Commons.
Amelie’s L’Express, which will take less than 300 square feet, will usher in a new storefront model for Amelie’s, COO Justina Martinez told What Now Charlotte. The space will feature the usual whimsical French decor but will not offer seating. It will also serve a limited menu, focusing on the bakery side of the business rather than the full bistro. Offerings will include pastries and coffee, as well as some grab-and-go options. They will also add fresh bread to the menu at the Plaza Midwood location.
“We’re going to be trying different things there. We’re going to let the neighborhood of Plaza Midwood direct us on what they want,” Martinez said. “We’ve had the opportunity over the years to have smaller bakeries, and we figured now was a good time to prototype one out.”
The new prototype will set Amelie’s up for future expansion, allowing them to expand with smaller footprints.
The team is targeting an opening in the first week of May at Amelie’s L’Express.
