Fullsteam Brewery signed a lease this month for a 9,000-square-foot space in the boiler room at the American Tobacco Campus in Durham at 300 Blackwell St.

The announcement on their website comes after news this summer that its taproom at 726 Rigsbee Ave. would be closing on Oct. 31. Owner Sean Lilly Wilson cited increasing rent costs as the reason.

Wilson told the Triangle Business Journal that he is excited to move to the historical space, which will feature outdoor seating and a larger parking area than the previous location. The space will also have an event area for live performances in addition to a dining area.

Wilson is aiming to open the new taproom in 2025.

“This ends up being the best of both worlds, because we can anchor ourselves as a welcome center to Durham and and really make the most of that amazing location and that opportunity at American Tobacco, but we can also solve some of the logistical and production manufacturing challenges that we had at our Rigsby spot,” Wilson told the Business Journal.

Fullsteam Brewery also has another taproom at Boxyard RTP in Durham, which will remain open.

Wilson first launched the Fullsteam brand in 2010 and is known for beers featuring North Carolina malt and locally-sourced ingredients. The brand brews year-round beers with names such as Rocket Science and Paycheck, seasonal beers and limited releases that can be found on tap at their taprooms.
