Filmmaker and hospitality entrepreneur Patrick Shanahan has a new concept in the works in the Triangle. Later this fall, Shanahan is bringing Capulet Cocktail Club to a 2,700-square-foot space at The Exchange in Raleigh’s Midtown neighborhood, according to a release from The Exchange. It will take the space at 1000 Social Street, Suite 110.
Shanahan is also behind Watts & Ward cocktail bar and Southeast Asian-influenced restaurant Peregrine, which opened at The Exchange earlier this year. Capulet Cocktail Club will be located near Peregrine in the interior courtyard at The Exchange.
“The Capulet name honors the star-crossed Juliet of Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy, ‘Romeo & Juliet,’” Shanahan said in the release. “She’s our club’s inspiration and muse, and our aesthetic is embodied in her eternal love.”
The Shakespeare-inspired concept will have Italian influences, drawing on Shanahan’s appreciation for Italian films. The space will feature both an indoor bar and a garden bar and will aim to be both grand and intimate in design. The indoor bar will be located beneath a 32-foot dome reminiscent of Roman architecture, and the garden bar will offer an atmosphere inspired by Italian courtyards and piazzas.
“Italy has always been at the forefront of fashion, art and cinema, influencing culture worldwide,” Shanahan said in the release. “At Capulet Cocktail Club, we’re creating a space to experience that same sense of la dolce vita.”
Like the design, the menu will feature heavy European influences, offering spirit-driven cocktails. Zach Thomas, who previously worked with Shanahan on the Watts & Ward menu, will be spearheading the beverage program as beverage director for Capulet Cocktail Club.
Construction is currently underway on the cocktail bar. Expect an exact opening date later this fall.
