Merino Mill continues to add new and exciting eating options to its lineup, this time announcing a new drinking spot called Copenhagen Wine & Beer Garden at 500 S Main St.

Developer Michal Bay recently announced a new taqueria called Picasso will be opening in Merino Mill early next year, joining the hub’s already established dining destinations, such as Alino Pizzeria, The Barcelona Burger & Beer Garden, and Defined Coffee. Now, Bay tells What Now Charlotte he will also own and operate another new concept coming to the area, Copenhagen Wine & Beer Garden. He expects to open Copenhagen next summer.

Bay is still planning the concept, but at its core, customers can enjoy a handful of beer, wine, and other small plates in this upcoming eatery. Before this opens, Bay will focus on opening Picasso in February 2024. This is an impressive achievement for Bay, considering the entrepreneur purchased and began restoration on the original Moor Turkish Towel Company Mill in 2010. Today, it operates as a business center and host to numerous large and small corporate headquarters, manufacturers, creatives, shops, and restaurants.

Merino Mill added 12,000 square feet of space to its Main Street Antiques & Design Gallery last year, allowing for 30 additional vendors, bringing the total up to 517. At the time, Bay hinted at the subsequent developments, which he hoped would be a new taqueria, a German beer garden, and a sushi restaurant. So far, two of those plans have come to fruition.

“When I think about what it looked like when I bought it 12 years ago and what’s happening here today, it’s magical,” Bay told the Charlotte Business Journal last year. “Every year, we work on improving the mill. We always want to spend extra effort to make it the best of the best, and I think we are succeeding. It will depend upon whether we run into any supply-chain issues in getting the right equipment and other factors in restoring the space.”
