After closing its SouthPark location last year, Dogwood: A Southern Table is getting ready to reopen in Uptown, located at 601 S College St.

Rare Roots Hospitality, led by Jon and Kim Dressler, closed its original location last year after nine years, making way for celebrity chef David Burke’s The Fox & Falcon. Now, the concept is returning to Queen City by reopening as part of a $24 million renovation plan starting soon at The Westin Charlotte in Uptown. Construction on the restaurant is scheduled to begin this summer, and the restaurant group is targeting a December 2024 opening date.

“When we closed Dogwood, we had every hope that the right opportunity would present itself for us to bring back this beloved concept,” Jon Dressler said in a news release first reported by the Charlotte Observer. “We are thrilled to bring both Southern cuisine and hospitality to Uptown Charlotte and become a part of The Westin Charlotte’s beautiful revamp.”

When Dogwood returns at the end of the year, guests can expect a modern, light-filled space that can accommodate 140 guests and a 36-seat bar. Rare Roots Hospitality is planning to renovate the space and update the menus. While the restaurant will continue serving some of its former favorites, including Duck and Dumplings and bacon jam, owners plan to add new food and bar menus. As for drinks, bar director Brittany Kellum will create a new cocktail menu to pair with the food.

“The expertise and reputation of Rare Roots Hospitality will bring the energy and dedication to craft we’ve been looking for to further solidify The Westin Charlotte as the premier hotel, food, and beverage destination for Charlotte visitors and locals,” Geoffrey Cousineau, general manager of The Westin Charlotte, said in the release.
