Alabama-based taco chain Taco Mama is expanding to Durham next year. Franchise group Power Brands Hospitality has a site listed as heading to Davis Park in 2026 on its website.
Power Brands Hospitality currently owns three restaurants from the franchise in the Atlanta area.
Taco Mama opened its first location in Alabama in 2011, placing emphasis on quality food, great margaritas and a funky, laid-back taqueria atmosphere.
“The atmosphere had to be fun, funky and creative – like our food, the names of our menu items and our margaritas,” the website states. “With our love of music we knew that the guest energy and experience could be enhanced through the right selection of tunes. Therefore, we hand-pick all of the music to be played in the restaurant to this day.”
The menu features build-your-own tacos, burritos, quesadillas and nachos, as well as specialty burritos and tacos. Sides include corn, black beans, chips and guacamole. The brand also serves plenty of margaritas and ice cold beer.
Power Brands Hospitality, founded in 1991, is based in North Alabama. It operates franchise locations for multiple restaurant concepts, including Five Guys, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Super Chix and Urban Cookhouse. Recently, it partnered with booming brand PopUp Bagels to lead its expansion across the Southeast, including markets such as Charlotte, Nashville and Atlanta.
