The former Spencer’s Mill site in Mount Airy is slated to receive a new steakhouse. Fablewood will be part of the forthcoming Balladeer Hotel. It will be located at 227 Willow Street inside the historic Barrel Building.

Fablewood will serve as a Southern gathering place with a warm atmosphere, offering a place “where our town’s folklore comes to life in fresh, flavorful ways,” according to the restaurant’s website. Renderings of the space indicate plans for a full bar as well as a dining room.

Chef Freddy Lee, known for spots such as Winston-Salem’s Bernardin’s and Oh’ Calcutta, will head up the kitchen at Fablewood.

Above Fablewood will sit Velora on Willow, a 250-guest event space featuring indoor spaces as well as a patio and courtyard.

The restaurant and event space are expected to open later this year. The Balladeer Hotel itself, which will feature other amenities such as a recording booth, is expected to open later this year, as well. It, along with the restaurant and event space concept, are being developed by Sunhouse Hospitality.
