A new Italian concept is on the way to a historic building in Mooresville. Florence Wine Bar and Beer Garden is slated to open in early fall in a 12,000-square-foot space at Merino Mill.

Owner Michal Bay told What Now Charlotte that the menu will feature traditional Italian cuisine, including fresh pastas, lasagna, meatballs, fish, beef and chicken. The beverage program will feature international offerings for both wine and beer.

The expansive space is set in a 132-year-old building formerly used to generate power for the mill. Bay said they tried to maintain the history of the interior rather than transforming it completely. As a result, many of the original design elements remain, including the 52-foot-high ceiling and the original brick walls (freshly cleaned). There are big windows along the walls allowing plenty of natural light to flow into the space, and the team has installed a new kitchen and a long bar.

There are also unique outdoor elements for customers to enjoy, including a 40,000-square-foot pond and plenty of outdoor seating.

Bay is also behind Barcelona Burger, Alino Pizza and Picasso Mediterranean. Picasso Mediterranean recently underwent a rebrand, transitioning from Picasso Taqueria to a menu more focused on Mediterranean cuisine.
